In Russia, the author of the popular animated series Mr. Freeman, Pavel Muntyan, was sentenced in absentia to 8 years in prison in the case of so-called military "fakes" because of a post about the atrocities of the occupiers in Bucha. Mr. Freeman is a cartoon episode depicting a black character who complains about the shortcomings of Russian society in a monologue.

This was reported by the Russian media. The day before, the Russian, who has been living in Cyprus since 2014 and has the status of a so-called "foreign agent" in Russia, was "mitigated" in his sentence, taking into account that he is the father of two children. In addition, the Russian prosecutor's office did not find any aggravating circumstances in the artist's case. According to available data, the maximum sentence under the article is 10 years in prison.

In February 2024, the creator of the web cartoon Mr. Freeman was arrested in Russia. As previously reported, a criminal case was opened against the cartoonist because of a post about Bucha published in April 2022. The Russian wrote that the occupiers had shot 280 residents of the Ukrainian town.

In December last year, the Russian artist was fined 40 thousand rubles, having been found guilty of "discrediting" the occupying army.
