"In times of war, they cherish their children's childhood": Zelenskaya movingly congratulated Ukrainian mothers on Mother's Day

On the second Sunday in May, the world celebrates a beautiful holiday - Mother's Day. In 2023, it falls on May 14. On this day children thank their dearest person for the gift of life. First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenskaya, who also has two children herself - 18-year-old Sasha and 10-year-old Kirill, also rushed to congratulate Ukrainian mothers.

In a touching post, the wife of the president of Ukraine talked about how the life of Ukrainian mothers has changed after the full-scale invasion of Russia. Zelenskaya posted the publication on her personal Instagram page.

The heartwarming text was complemented by footage of Ukrainian women with their children. Each photo is a different story and is associated with a full-scale war. In one picture, a mother tries to feed a frightened baby in a blackout, in another, a woman carries an infant in her arms against a building destroyed by a Russian missile in Mykolaiv, and also maternity homes in basements, resettlement shelters, and more.

But even in such dreadful conditions, Ukrainian mothers try to preserve a happy childhood for their babies. That's what Zelenskaya wrote about.

"Ukrainian mothers have had too much on their shoulders. Someone is waiting for her husband, son, or daughter from the front. She waits every night at least for a voice on the phone. Another Ukrainian mother learned to live in a foreign country, found a kindergarten and a school, and learned the language so she could understand a child's doctor. She found the strength to put her little ones to bed, promising them a good day tomorrow. Another Ukrainian mother learned to dress her child in the middle of the night and run for cover - so that in the morning the baby won't even remember that he didn't sleep in his crib, she also does everything so that the child won't remember the war. Not alone - millions of Ukrainian moms are doing the unbelievable for the second year in a row. Happy Mother's Day to each and every one of you who cherished your children's childhood during the war," the first lady wrote touchingly.

As OBOZREVATEL wrote earlier, Olena Zelenska attended the coronation of Charles III in London. At the biggest royal event for the last 70 years, the First Lady was accompanied by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal. Read about Zelenska's image at the celebration in our material.
