Rustem Umerov
Rustem Umerovych Umerov - Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, candidate for the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine, People's Deputy of the IX convocation from the party "Golos" (2019-2022).
Brief biography
Rustem Umerov was born on April 19, 1982 in the city of Samarkand (Uzbekistan) in a family of natives of Alushta (Ukraine). He is an ethnic Crimean Tatar and a Muslim.
His relatives were in exile in Uzbekistan, when on May 18, 1944 they were forcibly deported together with the entire Crimean Tatar people from Crimea. The Umerovs were able to return to their native Crimea after 50 years of deportation, when the repatriation of Crimean Tatars began.
Umerov is a graduate of the Crimean boarding gymnasium for gifted children and a scholarship recipient of the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) in the United States.
He also holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in finance. Both were earned at the National Academy of Management.
From 2004 to 2010, Umerov worked at lifecell, where he held various management positions. He headed the areas of legal support and logistics.
In 2013, together with his brother Aslan Omer Kirimli founded the investment company ASTEM, which specializes in the fields of communications, information technology and infrastructure. Also with his brother founded the ASTEM Foundation, a charitable foundation.
In 2019, he was elected People's Deputy of Ukraine from the Golos party. In the parliament of the IX convocation he was the secretary of the committee on human rights, de-occupation and reintegration of temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk, Lugansk regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, national minorities and interethnic relations.
In Parliament, he lobbied for the adoption of bills important for Crimean Tatars. In particular, on indigenous peoples and the status of the Crimean Tatar people. In total, he co-authored about 100 laws.
Since December 2020, he became co-chairman of the Crimean Platform parliamentary association.
In August 2021, by decree of President Vladimir Zelensky, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the IIІІ degree.
Since 2022 - Chairman of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. In connection with his election to a new post, he resigned his parliamentary mandate.
Resignation and future appointment in the Ministry of Defense
On September 4, Umerov wrote a letter of resignation from the post of Chairman of the FSIU and submitted it to the Verkhovna Rada. The day before, the President of Ukraine proposed to appoint Umerov as head of the Ministry of Defense instead of Oleksiy Reznikov.
Family
Umerov is married. Together with his wife raise three children.
