Moldova wants to cancel Victory Day on May 9
The Moldovan parliament has registered a bill to rename Victory Day on May 9 as Memorial and Reconciliation Day in memory of those killed in World War II. Also, the deputies propose to celebrate this day not on May 9, but on May 8.
The initiative was put forward by the deputies of the party "Action and Solidarity". This is reported by the newspaper NewsMaker.
According to the bill, the deputies propose to rename Victory Day into the Day of Memory and Reconciliation in memory of those killed in World War II. At the same time, memorial events in Moldova, as well as in European countries, will be held on May 8.
The authors of the initiative believe that it is necessary to switch to "interpretation and perception without accompanying ideology of some historical events related to the Second World War in the Moldovan society".
It is also noted that the bill does not aim to harmonize national legislation with that of the European Union.
Recall that the Moldovan president Maia Sandu said that the terrorist state Russia sought to organize a coup d'état in Moldova in order to overthrow the authorities that had chosen a pro-European course. However, despite the unsuccessful attempts, the aggressor may soon repeat its insidious plans.
Earlier Moldovan President Maia Sandu advocated that her country become part of the European Union as soon as possible because of the threat from Russia. The politician hopes for a decision on the start of negotiations in the coming months.
