German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposed an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This is how he responded to international calls to stop Israel's attempts to destroy Hamas after the unprecedented terrorist attack on the country on October 7 this year.
This was reported by the Times of Israel. The politician called for "humanitarian pauses".
"I don't think that calls for an immediate ceasefire or a long pause - which are tantamount to the same thing - are correct," Scholz said.
He noted that this way the militants will have an opportunity to recover.
"Ultimately, this will mean that Israel will leave Hamas the opportunity to rebuild and get new rockets," Scholz said.
His position contradicts that of many Arab countries, including Turkey.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on November 12, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israeli troops had completed the encirclement of Gaza. The fighting took place near the Shifa hospital, in the basement of which Hamas militants are located.
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces reported the capture of key Hamas strongholds in Gaza City. The IDF called the process of releasing Hamas hostages complicated and one that will take time.
