"This is dangerous for Ukraine": the Chancellor's party commented on the conflict between Scholz and Macron

SPD members call on Scholz and Macron to cooperate

The ruling party of Germany, the SPD (Social Democratic Party), is concerned about the conflict between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. SPD members are calling on politicians to cooperate, noting that the leaders of the two countries must act together.

The German Social Democrats expect Scholz and Macron to unite. This was stated by Michael Roth, chairman of the Bundestag's foreign affairs committee, in a commentary to Spiegel.

Now, he said, there is a "deep-rooted misunderstanding between the two politicians."

"We cannot afford a Franco-German dispute. It is dangerous for Ukraine... The Chancellor is right that France should do more... Ukraine needs pragmatic and quick help now, especially ammunition and air defense equipment. In Europe, people are hiding behind each other, and the Kremlin is smiling," Roth said.

At the same time, another SPD member, Axel Schaefer, noted that German chancellors from this party have always had "extraordinary relations" with French presidents. "When it comes to military issues, Germany should behave differently than France," he said, saying that Macron depends on Scholz.

"France alone hardly has the economic strength to become a leader in Europe. But we often practice self-righteous modesty - Scholz must now take on a leadership role in Europe, as he did in his dispute with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban," Schaefer emphasized.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says that if misused, the Taurus missile (which Ukraine wants to receive) can hit a certain target somewhere in Moscow. In addition, if Germany were to supply the missiles, it would have to be directly involved in their launch.

- Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has said that his every word on the war in Ukraine is "balanced and thoughtful." This also applies to his statement about the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine. Scholz opposed this idea.
