EU seeks to move after Swiss summit to Saudi Arabia meeting with Russia – Bloomberg

Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls on leaders of key countries to take part in the Summit

After the Peace Summit in Switzerland in June, the European Union plans to join the organization of a dialogue on peace in Ukraine in Saudi Arabia in the fall with Russia's participation. Details on the time and format of a possible meeting with Russia are currently unknown.

This was reported by Bloomberg. Russia has not been invited to the summit in Switzerland, as its participation could lead to the disruption of the event.

The publication also notes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls on the leaders of key countries to take part in the summit, but Moscow is actively trying to prevent this.

The journalists also noted that US President Joe Biden currently has no plans to attend the summit, scheduled for June 15-16 in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock. On these dates, he prefers to attend his campaign fundraiser in Hollywood.

It is also reported that China and Brazil are planning an alternative event on the Ukrainian issue. Bloomberg notes that Brazil and India will send junior foreign ministry officials to Switzerland, while China will be represented only by a senior state counselor, presumably Li Hui, China's special representative for the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

"And, of course, there is another aspect that I consider dangerous. This is the absence of leaders. According to all intelligence reports, the Russians are doing this. They plan to disrupt the possibility of the leaders' arrival as much as possible. To show the illegitimacy of this summit as much as possible. To show that the majority of leaders do not support this summit. We know who they are asking for, which countries they are meeting with, their dialogues with China," Zelenskyy said in an interview with journalists from Central Asia.

Earlier it was reported that the United States had confirmed its participation in the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. However, it is not yet known who will represent the country at the event. Representatives of more than 80 countries have also confirmed their participation in the summit.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his address on May 26 that US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping "are still on the sidelines of global efforts to prepare the Peace Summit."
