US Senate Majority Leader after visit to Ukraine: now is a crucial moment in history

Chuck Schumer calls for more weapons to be sent to Ukraine

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has warned of the need to provide more assistance to Ukraine, which has been fighting a full-scale Russian invasion for two years. According to him, now is a crucial moment in history.

He made the remarks after returning from a trip to Ukraine on Sunday, February 25. The words of the American lawmaker were quoted by CNN.

Schumer noted that this year is a "decisive moment in world history" and added that "the loss of Ukraine in the war with Russia would have devastating consequences for the United States."

"This is a pivotal moment, a turning point in the United States' ability to project ourselves-our strength, our power, our ability-to the world. When we got there, we told the Ukrainian people: America will not abandon you," Schumer emphasized.

The Senate Majority Leader specified that Ukraine needs more artillery shells, more weapons to destroy Russian supply networks, and more anti-aircraft weapons. He added that Russian troops can keep up artillery fire for much longer than Ukrainian artillery can return fire.

"The Russians can move further and hit the Ukrainians, and the Ukrainians will not be able to hit them back," he said.

The day before, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden again appealed to Congress to approve a bill with additional assistance for Ukraine. They stated that Ukraine can win the war with Russia, and it needs "the necessary tools" to do so.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, President Volodymyr Zelensky is confident that the US Congress will make a positive decision to allocate $50 billion in aid to the country. There is a month to make this decision.
