Spain will transfer an air defense system to Ukraine: Zelensky told about the agreement
Ukraine has agreed with Spain to help strengthen our country's air defense. This includes both air defense systems and ammunition for them. Portugal is also providing armored vehicles to the Ukrainian military and money for shells as part of a Czech initiative.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in Lisbon during a meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister. The Head of State spoke about the need to adopt bilateral security agreements that provide for long-term commitments of states to supply military assistance, and noted that a number of agreements "already exist now."
Zelensky emphasized that air defense is now a priority. Among these agreements is an agreement with countries that have air defense systems.
"As for Spain, for example. We have indeed had the relevant agreements, and there will be additional air defense for specific systems and missiles. I just don't want to talk about some of the details now, until these systems arrive, because people in Ukraine are waiting for them like a sip of water in the desert," he added.
Separately, Zelensky noted the allocation of 100 million euros for the purchase of artillery shells for our country as part of the Czech Republic's initiative and Portugal's participation in training the personnel of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
"But this is now. Air defense is now, artillery is now, armored vehicles are now," he emphasized.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Netherlands wants to provide Ukraine with an additional Patriot air defense and missile defense system. To do this, they will allocate the main components from their own stocks and invite European countries to join the initiative. The head of the country's Defense Ministry, Keesa Ollongren, called on the allies to contribute.
