On the morning of Sunday, March 3, an air alert was declared in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine due to the possibility of enemy ballistic missile attacks. After the alert was lifted, it became known that a Russian Iskander-M missile had struck Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, causing damage and casualties.
The threat lasted for about half an hour, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the regional prosecutor's office described the consequences of the enemy shelling.
In particular, at 06:24, the air alert covered Donetsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions (Luhansk and Crimea remain always on red alert).

Following the air raid alert in Donetsk region, the sounds of explosions were reported in the Pokrovsk district. At 06:50, the military announced that the threat was over.
According to local administrations, Pokrovsk came under enemy fire for the tenth time since the beginning of this year.

Officers of the 9th State Fire and Rescue Unit eliminated the fire of passenger cars on the area of 10 square meters, which occurred as a result of shelling.

The strike damaged nine high-rise buildings, three private households and two educational institutions, as well as residents' cars.

It is noted that the enemy shell hit a gas pipe, causing a fire and leaving 1883 apartments without gas. The emergency crew localized the damage and continued restoration work.

"Fortunately, there were no fatalities. All emergency services are on site to inspect the buildings and help the residents. As of 08:00, the contact center has already received about 50 calls about damage to the premises. The work is ongoing," said Pokrovska CMA.

The Donetsk regional prosecutor's office clarified that at 06:30 on Sunday, March 3, a Russian Iskander-M missile hit one of the residential neighborhoods of Pokrovsk. Houses were also in the epicenter of the explosions. Two women, aged 24 and 52, sustained shrapnel wounds. Later it became known about another victim.

Earlier, around midnight, Russian troops hit a school and a lyceum in the neighboring town of Myrnohrad with four rockets. The educational institutions were destroyed, nearby high-rise buildings were damaged, and three residents were injured.

In both cases, under the procedural control of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, pre-trial investigations were initiated in criminal proceedings on violations of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Ukrainian Air Force reminded that ballistic missiles are difficult to shoot down and are particularly dangerous. This is one of the most difficult targets for air and missile defense, as the missiles fly along a ballistic trajectory, meaning they are in uncontrolled motion.
