The Spanish government has decided to send another military aid package to Ukraine. It will include missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and Leopard 2A4 tanks.
The total amount of the military aid package will be $1 billion 230 million. This was reported by El Pais.
It is expected that new commitments to supply weapons to the Ukrainian army will be announced during the official visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Madrid.
The Spanish government announced its intention to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package last month. However, at the time, Spanish officials did not specify what kind of weapons would be transferred to the Ukrainian army.
At the same time, the Spanish media claim that the new military aid package will include dozens of missiles for the Patriot air defense system and 19 German-made Leopard 2A4 tanks. In addition, Ukraine will receive other Spanish-made weapons, including anti-drone equipment and ammunition.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Spain would provide Ukraine with €1 billion in military aid this year. Moreover, over the next three years, Ukraine will receive another €5 billion in aid from Spain.
In addition to military assistance, Madrid will provide humanitarian support, as well as promote economic recovery, support for Ukrainian reforms on the path to EU and NATO membership, and the Peace Formula. Zelenskyy also emphasized that he had spoken with the Spanish prime minister about further strengthening air defense and how Spain could help.
As a reminder, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin provided weapons to Ukraine on the condition that they would not be used for attacks outside of Ukraine.
Following Germany, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also spoke out against the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine in Russia. According to her, NATO should be "very careful".
