Our athlete was injured
Due to an injury, Ukrainian weightlifter Kamila Konotop was unable to compete for a medal in the 59 kg weight category. The 23-year-old from Kharkiv finished in seventh place with a total of 227 kg (104 snatch + 123 clean and jerk).
Results of performances
The Ukrainian declared the highest weight of all the participants in the snatch on her first attempt - 104 kg. However, Kamila severely injured the back of her thigh.
After that, our compatriot tried to take 129 kg, but was unable to do so because of the pain.
Before the third attempt, she hoped that the masseurs and doctors would be able to perform a miracle, but the injury was worse.
It should be noted that weightlifting competitions at the Olympics are held in two disciplines - the clean and jerk and the shot put, the sum of which determines the medalists.

On February 14, Konotop won the third gold medal of her career at the Continental Championships. The Ukrainian weightlifter triumphed in 2021 and 2023. In 2022, Konotop settled for silver at the European Championships.
