Huttsait announced the end of Abramenko's career

Ukrainian freestyle skier Oleksandr Abramenko, who became the first Olympic champion in the history of our country in this sport, has decided to retire. The 36-year-old athlete will not take part in future competitions and has given up the idea of competing at the 2026 Games.

This was stated in an interview with sport-express.ua by Vadym Huttsait, President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. According to him, Dmytro Kotovskyi, a 22-year-old native of Rivne, who has already won awards at the World Cup, has every chance to succeed Abramenko.

"Olympic champion Oleksandr Abramenko has already finished his sports career. Perhaps another freestyle skier, the winner of the World Cup in ski acrobatics, Kotovskyi, will compete for a medal at the Games in two years. We will prepare, and then we will see. It's too early to talk about the medal prospects of certain winter sports representatives," Huttsait said.

It should be noted that Abramenko is the most titled winter Olympian in Ukraine – he won gold in Pyeongchang 2018 and silver in Beijing 2022.
