Star Canadian hockey player 'wrote a letter to Putin' to get Russian citizenship

Canadian forward Brendan Leipsic wanted to get Russian citizenship, the head coach of SKA hockey club Roman Rotenberg wrote on his Telegram channel. Earlier, the team from St. Petersburg signed a 2-year contract with the 29-year-old Ed Chynoweth Cup winner in the 2012/13 season and the American Hockey League's top assist man for the 2014/15 season.

Leipsic wrote a letter to the Russian president to allegedly get a passport with a double-headed eagle,

"Very soon we will have one more Russian citizen on our team. SKA rookie Brendan Leipsic has expressed his desire to take Russian citizenship and has written a letter to Vladimir Putin," Rotenberg announced boastfully, provoking a wave of memes from fans.

Fans are bitching: now you have to write letters to Lukashenko, not to Putin (referring to the events of the unsuccesful Prigozhin's riot and Lukashenko's role in it).

Users sarcastically dream of asking for EU citizenship as well.

"It's a pity you can't write and get EU or US citizenship so easily, so people wouldn't go to 'DPR' and 'LPR'," they wrote in the comments.
