Ukraine signed a security agreement with Romania: details

This is the 23rd security agreement that Ukraine has signed with NATO countries

Ukraine has signed a security agreement with yet another North Atlantic Treaty Organization member. On Thursday, July 11, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian leader Klaus Iohannis signed a ten-year Security Cooperation Agreement between the two countries in Washington, DC, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit.

This was reported by the President's press service. This is the 23rd bilateral security agreement that Ukraine has signed with NATO countries.

According to the document, Romania will transfer the Patriot system to Ukraine and support our country with the same dynamics as during 2022-2024, as well as facilitate the fastest possible transit of all necessary military equipment through its territory to our country.

This agreement is characterized by specific points of cooperation to strengthen security in the Black Sea region. In particular, Romania will assist Ukraine in de-mining the area and provide support through EU and NATO instruments.

Bucharest will support Ukraine's defense industry. Romania and its partners will also help the F-16 training center to train Ukrainian pilots, thus contributing to the coalition of air force capabilities.

"We have fixed specific points of cooperation to strengthen security in the Black Sea region. Ukraine will receive the Patriot system from Romania and support for the defense industry. Romania, together with its partners, will help the F-16 training center to train Ukrainian pilots. Thank you for every manifestation of solidarity with our country and people," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Separate blocks of the signed agreement relate to intelligence and counterintelligence, cybersecurity, information security, humanitarian demining, sanctions, and the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine.

In addition, the agreement provides for a 24-hour emergency response mechanism in the event of repeated Russian aggression against our country or a significant escalation.

In total, Ukraine has signed 23 bilateral security agreements with The UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Japan, the US, the EU, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Luxembourg, and Romania.
