You don't even have to get your hands dirty: a simple method to unclog your sink drain

Bathroom and kitchen drains get clogged on a regular basis. And plumbers warn that regular cleaning with powerful chemicals sold in hardware stores can lead to corrosion and pipe damage.

Meanwhile, a fairly safe cleaning agent can be made independently at home. OBOZ.UA tells you about a life hack that even plumbers recommend. To clean the pipes, you will need

• potassium hydrogen tartrate, i.e. tartar;
• baking soda;
• table salt.

Baking soda releases carbon dioxide during the use of this product, which helps to destroy existing blockages. The abrasiveness of the salt can help remove grease and other contaminants that stick to the pipe walls. The tartar, due to its acidity, removes residues and disinfects the drain surface. This mixture can even destroy hair.

To prepare a drain cleaner, mix half a cup of baking soda with half a cup of salt and two tablespoons of tartar. All substances must be dry. Half of the resulting volume is usually enough to clean the pipes. The rest should be stored in a glass jar.

Pour the required amount of the mixture into the pipe and pour a pot of hot water – not boiling water. You will immediately hear a characteristic hiss. Leave the mixture to work for an hour, and then rinse the pipe well with plenty of water. If the method does not remove all the clogs the first time, the cleaning procedure can be repeated.
