Glass shower doors often get dirty due to water droplets, cosmetics, or limescale. Experts tell us how to quickly clean glass doors so that they are clean like new.

How often should glass doors be cleaned

Glass shower doors should be washed after each use or cleaned at least weekly. You can simply wipe the surface to remove water and grime, or try a quick spray of glass cleaner.

How to clean a glass shower door with vinegar

White vinegar diluted in water with dishwashing soap will help clean limescale.

• Mix two parts distilled white vinegar with two parts water in a spray bottle. Add 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid.
• Spray the solution liberally on the glass, starting from the top of the door, and leave it on for at least 5 minutes. The vinegar solution can be used as a daily cleaner.
• Rinse the glass with water and then dry it with a lint-free microfiber towel.

How to clean glass doors with lemon juice

Lemon juice is a slightly milder (though very effective) cleaner for glass shower doors.

The juice contains citric acid (not as strong as acetic acid) and can be used for daily cleaning. However, lemon should not be used on natural stone shower enclosures.

• Mix equal parts lemon juice and water in a spray bottle. Add 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent.
• Starting at the top of the glass door, spray the surface and leave on for 5-10 minutes.
• Rinse off the solution with water. Use a microfiber towel to dry the glass and remove streaks and stains.

How to clean the glass rails of the shower enclosure

The rails on the shower door hold all the soap suds and dirt that slide down the glass. Be sure to clean them to prevent mold and limescale from forming.

• Find a drainage hole or gap in the shower door. Cover it with an old sponge or towel.
• Pour undiluted distilled white vinegar into the track and leave it on for at least four hours or overnight.
• When the vinegar has broken down the soap suds, disconnect the drainage holes to allow the liquid to drain away. Use a toothbrush to scrub away any soap scum and dirt.
• Rinse the rails with water. Scrub again (if necessary) with a toothbrush dipped in vinegar. Rinse and dry with a microfiber towel.

Use a microfiber towel to dry the glass shower door after each wash even if you do not use detergent.
