Troubled airplane passenger in Australia will have to pay more than $5,000 for fuel: what happened
A problem passenger of one of the airlines in Australia, who did not follow the rules of behavior during a flight from Perth to Sydney, was punished in an unusual way. The traveler was obliged to pay more than $5 thousand to a commercial organization to reimburse the fuel spent by the pilot to return to the airport after departure.
According to CNN, the incident took place on September 25, 2023, but it took police officials a long time for the case to go through all the steps of the legal system. The name of the offender and the name of the airline are not being publicly released.
A 32-year-old man from Western Australia violated the rules of behavior on board the plane, because of which the pilot had to return to the airport. To carry out manipulations, the pilot unplannedly spent a considerable amount of fuel, so the passenger is obliged to reimburse its cost. He must pay the organization 5806 dollars. In addition, the Perth Magistrates Court fined the traveler more than $6,000, raising the cost of misconduct to $11,861.
"This incident should serve as a warning that criminal behavior on board can be very costly to the offender. It is much easier to obey the instructions of airline personnel than to create unnecessary problems that could ultimately hit you in the pocketbook," the flight attendants noted.
Such fines levied against violators are not typical for airlines. The violator pleaded guilty to hooliganism on board the aircraft and failure to comply with safety instructions.
