The best electric cars: a selection of durable models
Electric cars still have a higher initial cost than traditional gas vehicles. The good news is that many electric vehicles last longer for drivers and get better mileage, so you can save money in the long run.
Experts at Kelley Blue Book noted that an electric car will last as long as a car with an internal combustion engine - or even longer - because EVs don't have all the mechanical components of a gasoline-powered vehicle. In other words, conventional cars have more spare parts that will wear out or fail. GoBankingRates experts have published a rating of cars that are known for their durability, which is impressive even by electric vehicle standards
Hyundai Kona Electric
Initial recommended retail price: $32,875
The Kona Electric is a compact SUV with plenty of power and range. The car has a power of 201 hp and will travel 420 km on a full charge. The model has received excellent reviews from Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Edmunds. This electric car is designed to last a long time.
Experts say that the automaker's 10-year limited warranty is two years longer than other models and covers most vital engine components. With proper maintenance, a typical Kona will last from 320,000 to 400,000 km, or 13 to 17 years for the average driver who travels about 25,000 km annually.
Tesla Model S
Initial recommended retail price: $74,990
The Tesla Model 3 starts at $40,000, but if you have the means, it's better to go for the Model S, which offers more mileage and better reliability. Tesla covers its basic Model 3 and Model Y with rear-wheel drive. There is a standard eight-year, 160,000-kilometer warranty. For higher-end packages, it increases to 190,000 km.
The Model S, Model X, or Cybertruck are guaranteed for up to 240,000 km with a guaranteed minimum battery life of 70% throughout the warranty period. The Model X is more expensive, and the Cybertruck is a highly specialized vehicle that has been plagued by recalls and reliability issues since its release, experts say. This makes the Model S a logical choice in this price range.
Kia EV6
Initial recommended retail price: $42,600
Elegant and powerful, the Kia EV6 can generate up to 576 horsepower, depending on the configuration, and travel 500 km on a full charge.
The EV6 has impressed critics, who are delighted with its performance, handling, style, technology, and fast charging - the rate can jump from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Another advantage is its durability. According to CoPilot experts, the standard mileage for the Kia EV6 is 480,000-800,000 km.
Ford F-150 Lightning
Starting suggested retail price: $62,995
The Ford F-150 ushered in the era of electric pickups. Car and Driver experts gave the Ford F-150 Lightning a high rating, citing its power, versatility, and proximity to its legendary gas-powered counterpart.
Its warranty covers a standard eight years or 160,000 km, but many F-150 Lightnings will double that service life or better with proper maintenance.
