Not everyone knows what to do before the heating season
Soon, the coolness of autumn will come to Ukraine and it will be time to turn on the heating. This means that right now it's time to take care of the heating devices in your home to make them as efficient as possible in winter.
OBOZ.UA tells you what you need to do. Of course, you can call a master who will help you with all the nuances, but it is not difficult to cope on your own.
Remove air from radiators
The first thing you should do before turning on the heating in your home is to bleed excess air from the radiators. If this is not done, the air plug will block the flow of coolant and the battery will not heat up. Sometimes, the air does not allow the entire appliance to warm up, or it can block only a part of it - this happens with finned models.
To remove the excess air, you need to do one simple thing. Turn the vent valve, which is usually located at the top of the radiator. To do this, use a flathead screwdriver or a special wrench, depending on the model of the appliance.
Don't forget to place a towel under the tap, because some water will come out of the radiator along with the air. When it begins to flow out, it means that the process has been completed successfully and you can turn off the tap.
Clean the appliance from dirt
It may seem like a minor issue, but a layer of dust on radiators absorbs some heat, which you definitely don't want to lose in winter. Therefore, it is worth cleaning the appliance before the heating season. A steam cleaner can help you with this.
Before using it, place several layers of paper towels directly under the radiator. Dirty water will drain onto them. You can also remove the top cover of the radiator and wash it separately.
Blow steam into all the crevices of the battery - it will wash away dust, crumbs, pet hair, and other contaminants. Using a steam cleaner is the fastest and easiest way to get your home's heating appliances in order. All you have to do is collect dirty paper towels and dispose of them.
