As we age, our skin changes, and makeup should meet our natural needs. It is worth avoiding too dense products that can get into wrinkles. Pay attention to moisturizing face foundations and blush with a glowing effect.

Professional makeup artists told us about the most effective life hacks for mature skin. A few simple steps will help you feel more confident and promote healthy and radiant skin.

Step 1: preparation

Makeup artist Lisa Aaron talked about an interesting paradox: the better prepared the skin is, the less makeup you need to use. She advises women over 50 to focus on moisturizing, tightening, and smoothing the skin as much as possible.

"I often start with a tissue mask or serum because they penetrate deeper into the pores. Then I usually apply a richer moisturizer to ensure a healthy glow," Aaron emphasized.

Just don't use foundations that are too thick, as they can build up in wrinkles.

Step 2: primer

The right primer can really help blur fine lines and reduce pores. You should apply a thin layer of primer and wait a few minutes before proceeding with the main makeup.

Step 3: apply foundation

A tinted moisturizer is a great option for fresh and light daily makeup. Makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift advises women over 50 to choose a foundation with a medium coverage that lasts long and does not settle on fine lines and wrinkles. When it comes to concealer, a formula that won't dry out the skin is important.

Step 4: eyes and eyebrows

It is worth giving preference to rich mascara with the effect of adding volume. With age, black color makes the eyes look more expressive and intense. Brown mascara can make your eyes look tired and even add unacceptable yellowness.

Eyeshadows with a matte or satin finish look the smoothest and most appropriate, while creamy textures can get caught in the creases.

Contrast adds brightness, opens up and frames the face, so it is worth tinting your eyebrows, emphasizing the natural curve.

Step 5: color and shimmer

Cream blush is a great choice for mature skin. Blend them gently with a brush or sponge. Do not use blush and bronzer as a contouring product. With age, there is no need for contouring. Swift recommends applying the bronzer horizontally to the forehead, cheeks, and bridge of the nose, and then lightly blending it along the jaw.

"Shimmer emphasizes the problems of mature skin. However, I like products with a subtle brightness because they attract light. This light-reflecting property makes the skin look fresh, moisturized and, most importantly, young," Swift said.
