How to protect your crops from the scorching heat: an unexpectedly clever way

Sometimes, despite all the efforts, a small and frail crop grows in the garden. Experts say that in most cases, this is due to dry weather, which literally burns the plants. Diseases and pests should not be ruled out, but it is the scorching sun that often destroys all plantings of tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, peppers, etc.

It would seem that everything is simple – watering will save the situation. However, not everyone has the opportunity to water their beds regularly. It often happens that there is not even a water supply to the plot. OBOZ.UA tells you how to protect your crops from the summer heat.

In recent years, we have been experiencing scorching summer heat. Therefore, it is necessary to create partial shade conditions for plantings in advance.

In the spring, immediately after plowing, you need to mark out the area for planting. Ideally, each bed should be at least 3 meters wide. The delineation should be made from west to east.

Next, on all the boundaries between the beds, and especially from the east, west and south, experts advise planting corn – two rows will be enough. Corn will create partial shade as it grows.

Please note that corn seeds should be regular, not dwarf or undersized varieties. Experience has shown that one row will not be enough, but two rows planted in a checkerboard pattern will create the perfect partial shade.

Of course, this natural method will not be a one hundred percent guarantee of a bountiful harvest – for vegetables to grow well, you need to take care of fertilization and pest protection.

For example, spider mites appear where it is always warm and dry. In rainy summers, these pests are almost non-existent on vegetables, while dry, hot weather is optimal for active reproduction of mites.
