Makeup is primarily an area for self-expression. However, it's important to remember that skin care needs change with age. Techniques and products that were relevant when you were 30 years old may lose their meaning and benefit at 40+.
With age, the skin begins to lose moisture, so the first thing you should do is take care of high-quality pre-moisturizing. Makeup artists told us how to look younger with makeup.
Pre-moisturizing
Beauty experts advise using primers with hyaluronic acid and collagen to moisturize the skin before applying foundation. You should also choose a lightweight daily cream that deeply moisturizes and mattifies pores.
Foundation
An excessive amount of foundation creates a mask effect. The cream settles in fine lines and wrinkles. It is better to choose a radiant, lightweight foundation that smoothes out uneven texture rather than emphasizes it.
Dark circles under the eyes
One of the first places to show signs of aging is the area around the eyes. Makeup artists advise using the "triangle of light" technique: create an inverted triangle under each eye, gently applying light concealer. Don't forget to apply eye moisturizer and primer before applying makeup.
Cream or powder
Most makeup artists agree that cream formulas are ideal for more mature skin. Powdered products tend to settle in fine lines and emphasize wrinkles. Powders also tend to fall in uneven, blotchy lines as skin becomes drier with age. It is better to buy a cream blush and bronzer. Blush should be applied to the upper part of the cheekbones and slightly pulled up.
The shimmering effect
Metallic shadows can become chalky on dry skin and emphasize any imperfections. Experts advise paying attention to soft matte or satin shades of eyeshadow and applying darker colors higher above the crease and outer corner of the eyes.
Lipstick or lip gloss
At the age of 40, wrinkles begin to appear around the lips, which visually adds age. Choose lipstick formulas with a cream or lip balm texture. It is better to avoid matte shades. To remove dead skin and make your lips smooth, use an exfoliator.
The right tone of foundation
When you wear the wrong shade of foundation, you can visually add a few years to your age. When choosing a cream, take a close look at the shade near a window in natural light to see how it looks on your skin. Another great test is to apply the cream to the back of your wrist.
