The first recording of the anthem of Ukraine in 1910 was shown online

Today, Ukraine's anthem is considered to be one of the symbols of struggle, steadfastness, and strength of spirit all over the world. As you know, the familiar melody by Mykhailo Verbytskyi and the lyrics by Pavlo Chubynskyi were first performed on March 10, 1865, in Przemysl. Until recently, it was believed that the first recording of "Ukraine has not yet perished" was made in 1916 by Mykhailo Zazuliak. However, an even older version of the Ukrainian anthem has been found.

It was recorded in 1910. The archive video was shown on YouTube (scroll to the bottom of the page to watch it).

So, the anthem was first recorded in Cologne, Germany, in October 1910 at the Gramophon studio. It was performed by the outstanding Ukrainian opera singer Modest Mentsynskyi. He did so accompanied by an orchestra.

The performance of the national anthem was recorded on the matrix by sound engineer Arthur Clarke. As you can hear in the recording, some lines were sung differently from the existing version, with different syllables.

As we have already noted, the first performance of "Ukraine has not yet perished" was on March 10, 1865, in Przemysl. It happened on the occasion of the celebrations marking the anniversary of the death of the genius and prophet of the Ukrainian people, the poet Taras Shevchenko. 50 years later, this composition became the anthem of the UPR and ZUPR, and almost 80 years later, in 1992, it became the national anthem of Ukraine.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba launched a flash mob: he "sang" the Ukrainian anthem on social media and invited colleagues from other countries to join the initiative. See what happened in our article.
