"Dune: Part Two" impressed film critics: the movie has already been called a masterpiece and more successful than Avatar

The first reviews for the second part of Dune have appeared online

The first reviews for the science fiction film Dune: Part Two, which will premiere in Ukraine on February 29, 2024. The movie has captivated the public so much that it has been recognized as a masterpiece, even surpassing Avatar. However, it was not without criticism: for fans of relaxed cinema, the second part of Dune seemed too political.

At the time of writing, the specialized website for film critics Rotten Tomatoes has given Dune: Part Two" received 97% positive reviews. According to Forbes, the film has one of the best scores for a science fiction movie in a very long time.

In the second part of the story about the mythical journey of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, director Denis Villeneuve depicted the Caladan people's campaign of war against the conspirators - the baron of House Harkonnen and his nephew - who destroyed his family. Because of Paul's ability to see the future, Duke Leto's son will have to choose the lesser of two evils between the love of his life, Chani, played by actress Zendaya, and saving the universe from destruction.

On Rotten Tomatoes, out of 156 reviews, only 4 of them were labeled "terrible". This is evidence of the film's tremendous success, surpassing even Avatar, which has 82% positive reviews.

Journalists of the San Francisco Chronicle claim that the filmed Dune dilogy is political and vividly describes the real Cold War of 1947-1991. "Indeed, Dune: Part Two is as depressing as watching the news, but that doesn't make it relevant, because it's not news. It's more like unnecessary self-torture, like watching a depressing news report from another planet," they criticized the film.

As a reminder, the Dune films are an adaptation of the book series of the same name by Frank Herbert. As Slate notes, the original books were long considered unsuitable for adaptation to the screen despite the many different versions of the story that were created based on the source. Nevertheless, Denis Villeneuve managed to create films that captured the attention of viewers, which is why he is even called "the best science fiction director of all time."
