Scientists estimate that people spend about 240 days in the toilet in their entire lives (at least until the age of 80), so it's no wonder we all want our plumbing to shine clean between uses. Modern solutions such as disinfectant wipes have made life much easier, but experts say they are completely ineffective.

Wipes do not help remove bacteria. The experts explained why it makes no sense to wipe the toilet with these products.

There is a high probability that you have not cleaned the toilet properly with disinfectant wipes. They should be left on the toilet for at least four minutes.

It is important to note that pathogens are released with each flush. This can lead to illness and other complications in the human body, so it is very important to rid the surface of viruses and bacteria when cleaning.

So a simple wipe for a few seconds will not make sense. However, if you leave the wet wipes on longer, or add a disinfectant, you have a chance to clean the surfaces more or less efficiently.

Do not turn on exhaust fans and do not leave windows open – rapid drying will significantly reduce efficiency.

It is better to spend extra time on a multi-stage disinfection process. Pour warm water and dishwashing detergent into a container and wipe the toilet with this solution. After thoroughly foaming the solution, rinse with plenty of water.

Before or after the procedure, use a multi-purpose plumbing cleaner. Wipe the bowl with an all-purpose cleaner and a brush.

While you may be tempted to use bleach or other chemicals to clean the toilet bowl, they can only make things worse.

You can use baking soda and white vinegar to get rid of nasty lime stains. All you need to do is pour baking soda or vinegar into the toilet bowl and scrub the surface with a brush.

Citric acid will also be effective – it is recommended to rub the contaminated areas with half a lemon or prepare an acid-based solution.
