On Friday, April 7, Ukrainian defenders shot down another enemy Su-25 Grach attack aircraft. The aircraft was destroyed near Maryinka in the Donetsk region.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday, April 7. "Good news. An enemy Su-25 was destroyed near Maryinka, Donetsk region. We will stand and win!" - reads the post on the ministry's Facebook page (to watch the video, scroll down to the end).

For its part, the Command of the Air Assault Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that the Russian aircraft was shot down by paratroopers of an air defence unit of one of the airborne troops.

The Su-25 ("Grach", NATO code Frogfoot) is a Soviet armoured subsonic attack aircraft.

It is designed to support ground troops over the battlefield during the day and at night with direct visibility of the target, as well as to destroy objects with specified coordinates in any weather conditions.

The Su-25 has been in service since 1981. In 2009, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced the resumption of purchases of this type of attack aircraft. The cost of one Grach is about $11 million.
