How to get rid of paint splatters and spills on different surfaces: tips and tricks
Renovating your interior can symbolize a new stage in your life, but often the process of renovation itself can be a real stress. Regardless of how carefully you approach the task, there is a high probability that a few drops will stain the floor or other surfaces when painting the walls.
When working with paint or chemicals to remove it, be sure to wear protective gloves, a mask, and eye protection, and ventilate the room thoroughly. Lifehacker magazine told us how to remove paint splashes on different surfaces.
How to remove paint from a carpet
If the paint hasn't dried yet, use a paper towel or a cloth to blot and remove the drops, but never rub the fibers. If the stain has dried, the first step is to scrape off large pieces with a utility knife and vacuum the area.
If the stain is from latex paint, prepare a solution by adding a few drops of mild dishwashing detergent to water. Use a stiff brush to lather and scrub until the stain begins to dissolve. Next, use a handheld carpet cleaner or a steamer.
Oil-based paint stains require a careful approach. First, wipe the carpet with a foam created by water and detergent. Blot the stain with a cleaning cloth and add a few drops of paint remover, acetone, white vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide (try it on an inconspicuous area first to see if it will damage the color of the carpet). Once the stain is reduced or gone, clean the carpet again with dishwashing detergent or laundry gel.
How to remove paint from wood
There are several ways to remove paint drips and stains from wood surfaces. You can wash the stain with denatured alcohol. Another option is a chemical paint remover that will allow you to scrape off the softened paint: just be sure to follow the instructions on the package and follow up with an abrasive or nylon.
You can also sand the wood with sandpaper or a mechanical sander but note that this method produces a lot of dust and can damage the wood.

Water-based paint stains can be cleaned with homemade solutions. Mix two glasses of water with a few drops of detergent and wipe the surface. You can also prepare a solution of alcohol and lemon juice in a 3:1 ratio and apply it with a microfiber cloth.
For oil-based paint, you will most likely need to use a solvent.
How to remove paint from glass
The first step is to clean the surface with a cloth dipped in hot white vinegar. If the paint remains, try a solution of warm water and dish soap to lubricate the glass, and then use a razor blade or a scraper at a 45-degree angle to gently lift the paint off the surface.
