10 effective tips to help you clean your carpet

Cleaning a carpet is not an easy task. Dust, grease stains, dirt, and food residues accumulate on the surface and quickly penetrate the fibers.

A damp carpet can be a breeding ground for germs and mold, so after washing, be sure to open the windows and use a fan, dehumidifier, or hair dryer. Sanre Plus experts have collected 10 proven life hacks that will help you clean your carpet effectively. Benjamin Hyman, co-founder of Revival Rugs, told us which ingredients are best to use.

Life hack 1. Soapy water

The easiest way to remove grease stains from a carpet is to use soapy water. It will perfectly clean the fibers.

Mix a few drops of dishwashing detergent with hot water in a container and pour the solution into a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the sponge or directly onto the soiled areas. Rub in small circular motions. Then rinse the sponge with clean water and repeat the process. Wipe the carpet with a clean towel and let it dry by ventilating the room.

Life hack 2. White vinegar and baking soda

Pour water and white vinegar into a spray bottle. Then add 1 teaspoon of detergent. Treat the contaminated area and leave for 5 minutes. Then rinse with a clean, slightly damp cloth.

Sprinkle baking soda and salt generously on the still-slightly damp carpet in a 1:1 ratio and leave for at least 30 minutes.

Life hack 3. Lemon juice

Lemon juice will remove new stains that have not yet been deeply absorbed into the fibers. First, wet the stain with cold water. Treat the stained area with soapy water. Then wipe the carpet fibers with a sponge dipped in lemon juice.

Life hack 4. Ammonia

Ammonia is a versatile detergent that offers a radical solution to carpet cleaning.

Mix ammonia and water in a spray bottle in a 1:4 ratio. Spray the cleaning solution onto the stains and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Gently blot the stain with a clean cloth.

Life hack 5. Baking soda

Cleaning experts recommend using soda ash. First, you need to lightly blot the carpet with a cloth. Check for soda crystals in an inconspicuous corner of the carpet. Keep in mind that the color of the fibers may fade when they come into contact with this product.

Sprinkle an even layer of soda ash over the carpet and brush the fibers to allow the crystals to work.

After a few hours, vacuum again to remove any residual product and allow the item to dry.

Life hack 6. Talcum powder or cornstarch

A grease stain on the carpet should be quickly treated with talcum powder. Wait at least six hours and then remove the remaining talcum powder with a vacuum cleaner.

You can also use cornstarch.

Life hack 7. Shaving foam

Shaving foam is an effective remedy for dirt on carpets, especially for coffee stains. But before using this life hack, test the product on an inconspicuous area of the carpet.

Apply a thick layer of shaving foam to the carpet and spread it over the surface with the palm of your hand. Wait at least an hour and wipe it off with a clean sponge.

Life hack 8. A bottle of soda

If you have a wine stain on the carpet, experts advise using sparkling water.

  1. First, wipe off the red wine with a clean cloth.
  2. Pour soda over the stain to wet the dirty fibers.
  3. Then take a clean cloth to blot again.
  4. Repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.

Life hack 9. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean carpets

It is important to wash your carpet at least once a year. Cleaning services use special devices that release a mixture of detergent and warm water into the carpet. The operation is repeated with water to rinse and remove soap residue. Extraction also facilitates the drying process.

Life hack 10. Technique of professionals

The steam cleaning method remains one of the most effective. The device uses a special cleaner mixed with hot water to thoroughly remove dirt.
