The actor's body was found in the jacuzzi of his home, and the autopsy results showed that the cause of death was "acute ketamine exposure." On the day of the tragedy, the star's assistant Kenneth Iwamasa injected the anesthetic at the actor's request, administering 3 doses.

Further investigation revealed that five people, including the assistant, took advantage of the celebrity's drug addiction to enrich themselves. They were aware of Matthew Perry's struggle with substance abuse, but knowingly supplied and injected him with ketamine, which is used to treat depression and PTSD. Later, one of the five suspects, namely 54-year-old doctor Mark Chavez, pleaded guilty to the death of the celebrity.
