The actress loved her family, especially her mother, and wanted to ease the fate of a woman who would probably have to bury her own child. So Doherty began to sort through her belongings. She wanted to keep only the most valuable things, so she threw away, gave away, and sold a lot.
"My priority at this time is my mom. I know it will be hard for her if I die before her. That's why I made sure that she was less concerned about other things," the actress said.

She also loved to buy furniture, so she had four closets filled with it to relieve her family of this burden.
In addition, Dougherty knew exactly who she wanted, and more importantly, did not want to see at her funeral. She did not want to be accompanied on her last journey by people who had not cared for her during her illness.
