After his visit to Kyiv, American actor Michael Douglas recorded a short video message in which he thanked President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska for their hospitality and the opportunity to participate in official events. The star of the movie Basic Instinct expressed his sincere admiration for our capital and noted that it was people who impressed him the most.

The actor shared his thoughts on his official Instagram page. The actor admitted that he had imagined the largest city of Ukraine in a completely different way.

"Hello, friends. I wanted to share with you a little trip my son Dylan and I just completed. We just came back from Kyiv, Ukraine. As you know, Ukraine is under a terrible, terrible war with Russia, so it’s a little hard to get to. I had an idea of the capital as East Germany before the wall came down, but what I saw was a fantastic metropolis. Great architecture, a mixture of Soviet style and earlier periods of history. Fabulous culture, great restaurants and amazing energy," said the actor.

Michael Douglas also said that he was able to see the consequences of the terrorist actions of the aggressor country with his own eyes. He mentioned the Okhmatdyt children's hospital destroyed by the Russian attack, noting that it was obviously not an accident.

According to the celebrity, it was Ukrainian people who impressed him the most during his trip.

"What Dylan and I took away from this was the people, an incredible spirit. When you think about what’s happened to Ukraine, starting from the Stalin regime in through World War II, and then having to fight and maintain their 30-plus years of democracy, it’s an extraordinary place and a great reminder to all of us of the importance of freedom, democracy, and how you’ve got to work for it," the star emphasized.

In addition, Michael Douglas expressed his gratitude to Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife for their hospitality.

"I want to personally and publicly thank @olenazelenska_official for inviting me there for a conference on children that she was having, and of course, to President Zelensky. Thank you. You’re the right man at the right time," the artist said.
