Blue hands but a wide smile: what Queen Elizabeth II looked in her last days and where she was buried. Photo

What Elizabeth II looked like before her death

Exactly two years ago, the world was shocked by the terrible news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. The 96-year-old monarch passed away on September 8, 2022, due to deteriorating health. In her last moments, the royal was surrounded by her closest and dearest people.

Shortly before her death, the British crown princess managed to meet with the then Prime Minister Liz Truss. Elizabeth II received the politician not at Buckingham Palace, as usual, but at the royal castle in Balmoral, where she passed away later that day.

In the photos from the meeting with Truss, the subjects saw a huge purple bruise on the monarch's arm. This caused concern among British citizens, who later learned that the Queen was no longer alive.

On the eve of Elizabeth II's funeral, the palace published her last official portrait, which was taken on the occasion of Her Majesty's platinum jubilee in 2022. The photo depicted a smiling Queen wearing a pale blue dress. Along with her smile, a snow-white necklace and pearl earrings sparkled in the photo. A laconic blue brooch could be seen too.

At the end of September 2022, the royal family released a photo of the tombstone in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Elizabeth II was buried next to her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, whose body was transferred to his wife in the memorial chapel.

The Queen, who reigned for the longest time in the history of the United Kingdom, rests in the memorial chapel of her father George VI. The names of Queen Mother Elizabeth and Prince Philip are also engraved on the stone. Elizabeth II's sister, Princess Margaret, is also buried here.
