Oksana Sergeevna Markarova is the former Minister of Finance of Ukraine.

Brief Biography

Oksana Markarova was born in Rivne on October 28, 1976.

Oksana Markarova received her higher education at Kyiv Mohyla Academy, where she graduated in ecology, as well as in the United States, at Indiana University.

Oksana Markarova worked for three years in the United States, as an advisor to the Western NIS Enterprise Fund. In 2000 she was also an intern at the World Bank in the United States.

Oksana Markarova started her career in the Ukrainian government after the Revolution of Dignity, in 2015. Then she was appointed deputy chief of staff in the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

In 2016, after the approval of Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman's government, Oksana Markarova took the position of First Deputy Minister of Finance.

In the summer of 2018, after the Ukrainian parliament voted to dismiss Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk, Volodymyr Groisman appointed Oksana Markarova as acting head of the Ministry of Finance. And already in November of the same year, Markarova was approved as Minister of Finance by a majority vote in the Rada.

In 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation at its first session decided to leave Oksana Markarova as Minister of Finance.

Oksana Markarova resigned on March 4, 2020.

Appointment as Ambassador to the United States

In November 2020, it was reported that the Office of the President wanted to appoint Markarova as Ambassador to the United States. Allegedly, this idea was voiced by the head of OPU Andriy Yermak. According to him, Markarova in the U.S. will be able to help Ukraine reach an agreement with the IMF to obtain a loan.

Private life

Oksana Markarova is married. Markarova's husband is Daniel Volynets. The couple has four children.
