Brief biography
Maryana Bezuglaya was born on May 17, 1988 in Kiev.
She received her higher education at the National Medical University named after Bohomolets, specializing in Internal Medicine.
She also graduated from the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy, specializing in General Practice - Family Medicine.
She studied at the International Leadership Program of the U.S. Department of State "Health Care and Marginalized Populations", specialization "Organization and Management of Health Care".
At one time worked in a polyclinic and also on the front lines during the war in Donbass.
Headed the program "Reform of the system of medical support of the Armed Forces" in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
In 2019, she won the elections to the Verkhovna Rada in the electoral district № 217 in Kiev. Was a candidate from the party "Servant of the People".
In May 2021, she headed the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada to investigate possible unlawful actions of representatives of state authorities and other persons who could contribute to the violation of state sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and pose a threat to national security of Ukraine.
Member of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Scandals
In the midst of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Bezuglaya co-authored draft law No. 7351, which, if passed, would have given military commanders the right to independently kill servicemen for disobeying orders. The execution could be carried out without any proven circumstances.
The media called such a draft law an attempt to reinstate the death penalty in Ukraine, and compared it to the order of Soviet tyrant Joseph Stalin called "Not a step back", which provided for the creation of barrier units that shot soldiers in case of retreat during World War II.
After criticism in the media, the bill was withdrawn from the Verkhovna Rada without explanation.
