"It can be a game changer": ISW points out important nuance in Russian missile attack on Ukraine

During the combined air attack by the aggressor country Russia on Ukraine on the morning of January 13, more than two dozen Russian missiles and drones failed to reach their targets due to self-detonation, hitting deserted areas, and successful countermeasures by electronic warfare. Disabling such a large number of missiles with electronic warfare means could be a turning point in the capabilities of the Ukrainian army.

Earlier, the ISW estimated that the Russian campaign of strikes against Ukraine and the adaptation of Ukrainian forces to counteract new Russian strike systems are part of a tactical and technological offense and defense race between long-range aviation and air defense capabilities.

Yurii Ihnat, a representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the Russian missile strike on January 13 was similar to previous attacks on January 8 and earlier. According to the representative of the Institute of War Studies, this indicates that Ukrainian forces can identify certain patterns in Russian attacks and adapt to them by introducing innovations.
