"Until something changes in Ukraine": the Russian national team was suspended from the World Cup in the main winter sport
The Russian national team has been suspended from the new season of the World Cup in cross-country skiing, which is considered the main individual winter sport in Russia. This became known following the meeting of the International Ski Federation (FIS), which took place in Switzerland and ended in a complete fiasco for the representatives of the aggressor country.
This is reported by the Swedish edition of Expressen with reference to the general manager of the Swedish national team Lars Oberg. He expressed satisfaction with the extension of sanctions against skiers from the Russian Federation, as there were fears that the FIS would return the Russians to its tournaments.
"There was no discussion. We have just been informed that the suspensions of Russia and Belarus have been extended, and their teams will not be at FIS events this season. This is good news because Sweden is part of the FIS that really supports the suspension to remain in place until something changes in Ukraine. In the current situation, I think it's wrong to let them go," Oberg said.
Earlier, prominent Russian propagandist Dmitry Guberniev demanded that five-time Olympic champion Johannes Klebo fight for Russia's return to FIS competition.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson criticized International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach for his loyalty to Russia.
