Undefeated Ukrainian boxer refused to fight, making his title vacant

Undefeated Ukrainian European Boxing Union (EBU) lightweight champion Denis Berinchik (17-0, 9 KOs) has given up his title. The fight against 46-year-old Italian veteran Emiliano Marsili (42-0-1), which was scheduled for June 24 in Italy, has been canceled, according to Boxing Scene.

The 35-year-old Krasnodon native won the EBU championship belt in December 2022. Denis won the fight against Yvan Mendy (47-6-1, 22 KOs) of France at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

 

After Berinchik refused to defend the EBU title, it became vacant. Now Marsili's opponent for the belt will be appointed by the European Boxing Council. This will be the next fighter in the rankings to claim the title.
