Tomenko says how to turn the 2024 Olympics into a "festival of victory and peace for Ukraine"

A well-known Ukrainian politician Mykola Tomenko has named 5 points that Ukraine must make so that its performance at the Olympics in Paris is not overshadowed by the presence of athletes from Russia and Belarus. The opening of the XXXIII Summer Olympics is just over 200 days away.

Tomenko proposes to do the following:

1. Start daily preparations of our national team for the Olympics (further struggle for licenses, organization of the training process, preparation of presentation events in Paris...);
2. Abandon the inadequate and harmful idea of Ukraine's boycott of the Olympic Games in Paris;
3. The government should select and the Verkhovna Rada should finally support the candidacy of a new Minister of Youth and Sports (let me remind you that since November 17, 2022, Ukraine has actually and legally had no minister since November 9, 2023);
4. Continue the struggle for the complete exclusion from participation in the 2024 Olympics, even in the status of neutral athletes, of representatives of Russia and Belarus; To do this
   • - monitor and publicly inform the Olympic community about the political involvement, support for the war and participation in the sports power structures of the Russian Federation and Belarus of possible candidates for the status of "neutral athletes"
   • - to use the experience of the International Federations of Athletics and Badminton in the issue of a tough sanctions policy against athletes of the Russian Federation and Belarus;
   • - to encourage the authorities of the Russian Federation and Belarus to independently refuse to participate in the "humiliating status" of neutral athletes without symbols...
5. To work systematically to ensure that Ukraine's officials and the national team adequately represent our country as a country that is currently fighting for freedom and peace around the world.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matviy Bidny said that Ukraine may boycott the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11.

According to Bidny, everything will depend on further actions of the International Olympic Committee.
