Russian Olympic champion accuses IOC of bullying Russians as they "fight for country's future" in Ukraine

Two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov has expressed outrage over the conditions for Russian athletes to be admitted to the 2024 Games in Paris in a neutral status. The Stanley Cup winner also called the suspension of all athletes and those who support the war in Ukraine or are related to the Armed Forces and other state structures of the aggressor country a mockery.

Fetisov said this in a comment to the KP Sport propaganda publication. According to the former hockey player, Russian athletes have no right to agree to travel to Paris next year without the national flag and anthem, "when our guys are fighting for this flag, for this anthem, for the future of the country," referring to the criminal war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine.

"Athletes of many sports will no longer have time to even qualify for the 2024 Games in Paris. Others are given some unthinkable conditions like one athlete at a time. It is a mockery. Going today without the flag and the anthem, when our guys are fighting for this flag, for this anthem, for the future of the country... It is not easy for an athlete to make such a decision. There are all kinds of people. What is happening is clear for many people," Fetisov said.

Earlier, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach criticized Ukraine and announced the conditions for Russia's admission to the Olympic Games 2024.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, the IOC banned athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in the 2023 Asian Games, which athletes were going to use to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games.
