UEFA bent down before Russia

The European Football Union (UEFA) has continued to calculate Russia's club rating, despite the suspension of teams from Russia from tournaments under the organization's auspices. The aggressor country again received 4.333 points for the 2023/24 season in the table of coefficients, which is used to determine representation in European competitions.

The relevant data is available on the UEFA official website. Thanks to this attitude on the part of the football union, Russia has been ranked higher than Ukraine, whose war it started in February 2022 and for which it was suspended from world football.

In total, over the past five seasons, the Russians now have 22,965 points and 22nd place in the coefficient table. This would allow Russia to field four teams at the start of the European campaign in 2026.

It should be noted that next season, UEFA will radically change the format of the Champions League. There will be no group stage in the tournament, and all participants will be in a single standings.

Ukraine has lost its guaranteed place in the main draw of the Champions League, but Shakhtar could avoid the qualifying round if Real Madrid defeats Borussia Dortmund in the June 1 Champions League final.
