Roderich Kiesewetter of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which opposes the government of Olaf Scholz on defense issues, advocated the transfer of German Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. He noted that the partners should go for all-in and provide Kiev with everything it needs to defend and liberate the temporarily occupied territories.

Kiesewetter said this in an interview with Redaktions Netzwerk Deutschland (RND). "Ukraine's partners should go all-in and provide Ukraine with everything it can use in the fight against arms-related weapons and what is allowed under international law," he said.

Kiesewetter explained that the Taurus missiles, which have a range of up to 500 kilometers, could be a "very useful contribution from Germany. He stressed that there should be no "red lines" in this context.

The politician specified that the FRG has a small number of these high-precision missiles, but they would significantly help Ukrainian defenders attack Russian military infrastructure far behind the front lines.

"About 600 such cruise missiles were purchased for the Bundeswehr 10 years ago, but only about 150 of them are still in combat readiness," he noted, adding that these missiles would be much smarter to use in Ukraine than to store them in Germany.

It should be noted that the Taurus long-range cruise missile is designed to accurately engage protected targets without the carrier aircraft entering the enemy air defense zone. According to the information provided by the developer, the range limit of the missile has been increased to 500 km.

The Taurus missile has a load-bearing hull, a short flared upper wing and a cruciform tail fin with control elements. Fuel tanks are located between the seeker head and the engine on either side of the warhead.

The TRN and IBN autonomous targeting systems allow the missile to be used even without assistance of the satellite guidance systems. In combat use the TAURUS missile can fly over the whole range of altitudes.

As a reminder, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz admitted that his country has often been slow to accept the military aid that Ukraine has requested from Berlin to fight a full-scale Russian invasion. He explained that the delays were due to the fact that the FRG has "a slightly different system."

As is known, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has confirmed the allocation of a new package of military assistance worth 2.7 billion euros. It will include additional combat tanks Leopard-1, BMP Marder and air defense systems Iris-T.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that all Western partners know exactly what kind of weapons the Ukrainian army needs for the upcoming counterattack, as well as for defense. These are armored vehicles, long-range missiles and air defense systems.
