Adam Xiao Him Fa, two-time French figure skating champion (2023, 2024), won the European Championships, which took place in Kaunas, Lithuania, from January 10 to 14. The 22-year-old native of Bordeaux made a real splash, leaving his competitors far behind.

During the compulsory program, Him Fa made a mistake on the quadruple salchow but still remained in the lead with a 2-point advantage. The titled skater also failed to skate the free skate cleanly, falling off the quad-tumbling and making a mistake on the quarter salchow.
Despite this, Adam's advantage was so great that he took the risk of including an arbitrary backflip program. This element was banned after 1976 and had been performed only once before the Frenchman in official competitions (by the American Terry Kubicka at the 1975 World Championships).
For such hooliganism, the leader of the French national team received a fine from the judges - two points were taken off his score, as provided for by the rules. To prevent other elements from being penalized, Adam choreographed a jump between the choreographic sequence and the rotation.
