How to scare away wasps: effective summer life hacks

Summer is a season not only of warmth, flowers, and fresh fruit but also of insects that can cause a lot of trouble. For example, wasps - in warm weather, they become extremely active and start building nests, including near people's homes.

Experts say that if you don't want these insects to start living near your cottage, house, or apartment, you can use simple natural remedies to scare them away. OBOZ.UA tells about their secrets in more detail.

Plant some plants

The scent of some herbs and flowers is very unpleasant for wasps. For example, they are unlikely to settle near a bed of mint, basil, rosemary, lavender, thyme, or sage. You can place pots with these plants on a windowsill, plant them in a flower bed, or create a beautiful and fragrant border around the perimeter of your property.

Use essential oils

Essential oils of citronella, lemongrass, geranium, and mint can also act as a natural repellent to protect against wasps. It is very effective to light a candle containing one of these agents. The heat will help the aromatic molecules spread as far as possible.

But a scented spray will also work. Mix 10-15 drops of essential oil with one cup of water and shake in a spray bottle. Treat all the places you want to protect from wasps with this mixture. Apply it every few days. It is also worth spraying the scented solution in places where wasps like to build nests, such as under the porch roof and near any cracks.

Seal all cracks

If there are any small holes in the ground, concrete or wood pavement, or walkways, be sure to inspect them, they could be entrances to a wasp nest. Fill these holes with sand to prevent insects from getting out of or into the nest. Regularly inspect your home and property for potential entry points. If necessary, call professional exterminators who will quickly destroy the nest.
