The Dutch national team defeated Poland in the 1st round of the European Football Championship 2024. The match in Group D at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg ended with a score of 2: 1.
Ronald Koeman's men predictably started the game as the first team to take full possession of the territorial advantage, but conceded an illogical goal in the 16th minute. After a corner kick by Adam Buksa, the corner kick was sent straight into the goal.
The Poles rejoiced in the winning score for only 7 minutes. Cody Gakpo restored the balance in the 29th minute with the help of a rebound.
In the remaining time, the Polish national team chose a more cautious tactic, not forcing events, and paid the price. In the 78th minute, manager Piotr Zielinski left the field, and 9 minutes later the Netherlands scored the winning goal.
Wout Weghorst, who had come on 5 minutes earlier, touched a round ball under Szczęsny's hand.
