Revolution has taken place in world boxing to put an end to Russia
The national federations of Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, the Philippines, Sweden and the United States have announced the creation of a new boxing organisation, World Boxing. Its main task will be to keep the sport in the Olympic programme and to become a competitor to the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is run by Russia.
According to the Inside The Games portal, the new federation will not be able to offer athletes the same financial conditions as the IBA, which is funded by Russia's Gazprom. With a starting budget of 900,000 euros, World Boxing intends to focus on the Olympic cycle.
"We have different sources of funding. There are donations, memberships, sponsorships, revenues and some other sources of funding that we can find from different sources. The budget that we have calculated for this year is 900,000 euros," said Simon Toulson, acting secretary general of World Boxing.
The IBA has already announced that members of the new organisation will be sanctioned. The association is in conflict with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Its president, Russian Umar Kremlev, was re-elected to his position despite the decision of the Court of International Sports in Lausanne (CAS), which banned the IBA from holding elections.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Beijing 2022 bronze medallist Eduard Latypov said that Russians should be returned to world sport "without any checks".
