Most people have a favorite pair of shoes that they wear most often, and they want them to last as long as possible and look neat.

When we don't have time to wash our sneakers by hand, we throw them in the washing machine without thinking about the consequences. OBOZREVATEL has collected effective tips to help keep your shoes looking good.

Leather, suede, vinyl, and rubber products require special care, and improper cleaning will ruin their appearance. Heels or sandals made of satin, and silk, and decorated with various jewelry are best left to a professional, as one careless movement can ruin the shoes, and they will no longer be as attractive.

Sneakers made of nylon, cotton, and polyester can be safely washed in a machine. The material is durable and will withstand the entire wash cycle. But before that, you need to prepare your shoes.

Remove the laces, insoles, and other parts, shake out the debris, and clean all the cracks and soles with a small brush. Place the shoes in a mesh bag or pillowcase, which will not only protect them from damage but also reduce noise during washing. Put the insoles and laces in a separate bag, and then you can start the washing machine.

The program should be set for delicate clothes so that the speed is slow. If possible, turn off the spin cycle and use liquid detergent or capsules. Dry powder may not dissolve in water and can leave stains.

If the unpleasant odor remains, wash the insoles by hand. To do this, add dish detergent or laundry detergent to warm water and scrub them with a stiff brush. Rinse under running water and dry.

Baking soda can also easily remove odors. Sprinkle it on the surface and leave it overnight. The mixture will absorb the persistent odor.

Dry your shoes outdoors, but not in direct sunlight. Extreme heat can cause the color to fade, and to keep them in shape, place clean cloths or paper inside the shoes. This will also absorb excess moisture.
