For the first time in 60 years, the Oscars gave up the red carpet: the reason and what color the carpet will be
This year's Oscar ceremony will surprise filmmakers with an unexpected change - the stars will walk not on the usual red carpet, but on a beige carpet. They poetically called its hue the color of champagne, but in media interviews, they stressed that they tried to create a sandy beach effect.
The updated carpet has already been rolled out in front of the paparazzi. The New York Times told reporters why they decided to change the tradition for the first time in 62 years (scroll to the bottom of the page for photos and video).
Oscar organizers said in an official commentary that they wanted the carpet to resemble a beach at sunset. They were allegedly looking for a color that would evoke a sense of peace and tranquility in guests.
In addition, the organizers were guided by the color combination of the orange tent and the track. It was important that the overall look looked harmonious. We also considered the chocolate shade, but we settled on the color of champagne.
Of course, such a rare event as a change of red carpet caused heated discussion among the stars, organizers of social events, and fashion experts. In particular, celebrity event organizer Mindy Weiss suggested that the Oscars changed the color of the carpet to keep up with fashion trends.
As you know, in recent years, events like the Emmys, Golden Globes, Met Galas, and world premieres have abandoned red and experimented with shades.
And Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel joked that the color change was due to an unpleasant incident last year when Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock in the face.
"I think the decision to choose a champagne-colored carpet instead of a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be spilled," he said.
