Difference is bigger every year: how Ukrainians and Russians feel about Stalin and when there was a "break" in public opinion
The absolute majority of Ukrainians have a negative attitude towards the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. A minority of the population (23%) had a positive attitude toward Stalin even before the Revolution of Dignity.
After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the public opinion of the population crystallized. 64% of respondents had a negative attitude to Stalin as of the summer of 2022. The proportion of those who had a positive attitude was only 5%. This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
As of 2023, 61% of respondents have a negative attitude to Stalin, with 4% feeling positive. It is worth noting that depending on the regions of the country, the results of the survey did not differ significantly. However, only 1% of the population has a favorable attitude towards the Soviet dictator in the Western regions, while this number is 8% in the Eastern ones.
In addition, the share of Ukrainians who have a negative attitude towards Stalin in all regions exceeds those who have a positive one significantly. There was a significant increase in negative attitudes towards the dictator and a decrease in positive attitudes in 2022 in all regions. At the same time, regional peculiarities of perception of the personality of the dictator still exist. The majority of respondents have a negative attitude towards Stalin in the Western and Central regions, while about half of the respondents have an indifferent attitude towards the dictator in the South and East of Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that residents of the terrorist state of Russia have quite the opposite attitude to the Soviet dictator. Ukraine and Russia had roughly the same proportion of the population with a favorable attitude toward Stalin back in 2012, but later there were fewer and fewer sympathizers of the Soviet dictator in our country.
However, the favoring of Stalin grew rapidly in the Russian Federation. The majority of the population now has a positive attitude. The share of those who have a favorable view of Stalin rose from 28% to 63% between 2012 and 2023.
More than three-quarter of Ukrainians (77%) are fully confident in the victory of Ukraine in the war against the Russian aggressor, while another 16% are not so sure. This is explained by the fact that citizens realize the high degree of threat of extermination of the entire nation in case of military defeat of our state.
As reported OBOZREVATEL:

- The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians expect assistance from partner countries in strengthening the defense capabilities of our country. In addition, Ukrainians expect support in the form of security guarantees.
