Becomes a garden decoration: how to feed lilies for perfect blooming

Beautiful lilies will decorate any bed and refresh it with their rich fragrance. It is not difficult to grow bright and lush lilies, it is not too fastidious plant. However, without the right fertilizer, it can die.

Experts advise fertilizing lilies twice in the spring season. How to ensure perfect flowering and what fertilizers lilies like - read in the article OBOZREVATEL.

How to choose fertilizer depending on the type of soil

Fertilizer can be applied:

  • before the beginning of budding
  • during flowering
  • At the end of flowering.

It is important to pay attention to the type of soil in which the flowers grow.

Loam or clay type.

Before planting, an organic fertilizer, such as manure, should be applied. Also, peat or sand should be added to the bed and the soil should be thoroughly turned over.

Sandy or calcareous type

These types of soil need a lot of organic fertilizer. The bed should also be recultivated before planting the lily.

Peat type

In peat soil, a minimum of two buckets of clay and four buckets of sand should be added. Only then will the bed be suitable for planting lilies.

Spring dressing for lilies

In early spring, as soon as the snow melts, the soil can be saturated with ammonium nitrate and urea.

But if you did not have time to make an early fertilization - no problem. It is optimal to apply fertilizer in May. When the shoots are coming off, dilute 2 tablespoons of ammonium nitrate per liter of water in ammonia nitrate and pour it over the roots of the lily.

You can also treat the sprouts with a Bordeaux mixture - it will protect the plant from pests and diseases.

When the buds appear, experts recommend re-applying ammonium nitrate diluted in water or potassium magnesia. The latter is diluted in water at a ratio of 15 g per 10 liters of water.

Wood ash is also ideal. It should simply be scattered on the bed. For 1 square meter, 100 g of fertilizer is applied. The ash will strengthen the lily and make the fragrance more intense.

At the end of summer, it is recommended to make a phosphate fertilizer. Use potassium sulfate and superphosphate. This is necessary to allow the bulb to recover and get stronger until the next season.
